Mom, please don't go

How does your heart not melt as soon as you hear those words REGARDLESS of how they are being used?!?!?!?  Ever since Caleb was about 5 months old, when he got his first ear infection, his sleeping habits have not been ideal for 2 new parents who truly enjoy their own sleep.  To be quite honest, Caleb did not start sleeping through the night until he got his big boy bed which was right before he turned 2 years old.  Don't you feel sorry for us?!   To this very day Caleb still fights sleep.  Maybe its bad parenting, or just stubbornness on his part but its a battle that is never ending with this child.

I was putting Caleb in bed tonight and usually I lay down with him until he falls asleep.  Again, I'm sure some parents are probably saying, "Oh you shouldn't do that," but this is one of the things I enjoy most with Caleb and you know what?  He will tell me when I don't need to lay down with him for him to fall asleep anymore!!  I will say though when he starts playing and being silly I get up and leave.  He cries for a little bit and then usually puts himself to sleep.  Tonight was a little different.  I don't know if its because he's still adjusting to being back home after a long stay with Grandma & Grandpa Jackson or what, but he cried for quite awhile tonight so I caved and went back in his room.  I walked into his room and he said, "Mom, lay down with me?"  UMMMM HELLO!!!!  Of course I'll lay down with you sweet boy.  So we laid there quietly listening to his lullabies cd and just when I thought enough time had passed where I hadn't felt him move I decided to get up.  As I was sliding out of his bed I felt his sweet tiny hand pat mine and the words that melted my heart came out of his mouth, "Mom, please don't go."  So I laid back down and let him wrap his little arms around my neck and enjoyed every minute of it until he was fast asleep! :)
